The Junior Side of The Fancy

Juniors - The Future of the Fancy

A warm welcome to my Junior page!

Even though 2002 was my last year as a Junior, I have decided to still keep this page online (I done a similar on my old geocities site)  - good luck all!

First of all , you may have a pet rabbit that doesn't wear a BRC ring but don't worry as many shows have pet classes to encourage juniors and new exhibitors (more information on pet classes on my showing page).

When you go to your first show, you will be amazed at the wide range of breeds there are. What takes your fancy? Is there any breed you want to get into? Many exhibitors will want to encourage juniors, you. When you get your first show rabbit it will wear a ring on the hind leg, this is registering it to the BRC (the British Rabbit Council http://www.thebrc.org) and to you. You will need to check the ring regularly for any foreign objects. To get this rabbit in your name it costs 3.00 to transfer it and to join as a Junior member it costs £8 at the present time.  After the transfer you can show him/her in the main show and Junior COM show.

Good luck!

BRC Juniors Awards

The British Rabbit Council offers a number of things for juniors including the Junior of the Year award. This is awarded to the junior who works hardest at his or her club and helping to talk up the fancy. The certificates and trophies are awarded each year at Bradford Championship Show.

If you win a certain amount of Junior COMS with the same rabbit you can send of for Junior Diplomas, listed below are the requirements:

Junior Silver Star Diploma:        5 certificates of merit
Junior Championship Diploma:  10 certificates of merit
Junior Gold Star Diploma:         15 cerficicates of merit

If you win 4 Junior Diplomas with the same rabbit you can send of for a Junior Certificate.

If you show pet rabbits, you can also send of for diplomas.

THE COM SHOWS

A COM show is a separate show just for juniors (from the age of 5 to the year you reach 16). COM stands for Certificate of Merit. A COM show will often have a number of different classes depending on what juniors show in a particular area, ie, if there are a lot of Cashmere Lops shown in an area there will be a Cashmere Lop junior class.

A COM for Juniors is similiar to the CC and it is awarded to the class winner. In the Juniors many shows normally just have one or two classes for each breed ie. Mini Lop Self Mini Lop Non Self or just Mini Lop AC/AA.

A COM show is a perfect situation to compete against juniors of your own age. When the COM is been judged, why don't you help steward that way you are gaining experience. In the fancy you should make many friends. YOU CAN ENTER BOTH THE JUNIOR CLASSES AND THE MAIN SHOW.
More recently the BRC has introduced Junior Diplomas for Best Junior Fancy, Best Junior Fur, Best Junior Rex and Best Junior Lop.

Have fun!!
